Nicholas Ma takes ‘Leap of Faith’ with new documentary about bridging theological and sociopolitical beliefs

Filmmaker Nicholas Ma—son of renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and director of Won't You Be My Neighbor?—focuses his documentary Leap of Faith on a group of 12 diverse Christian pastors from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Brought together over the course of a year by Rev. Michael Gulker of The Colossian Forum, the group convenes for a series of retreats aimed at fostering unity across deep theological, social, and political divides.

Rather than seeking full theological consensus, the film explores whether people with fundamentally opposing views on contentious topics can engage in respectful dialogue, navigate conflict, and maintain a sense of mutual love and belonging in a polarized world.
